본 연구는 중국어권 학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 한국어 능력 관련 요인과 의사소통 전략 사용 간에 어떤 상관관계가 있는지를 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 대상은 한국 대학에 재학 중인 중국인 학습자 15명이며, 이들의 한국어능력시험(TOPIK) 성적, 자기 평가, 학습 경험을 바탕으로 한국어 능력을 조사하였다. 아울러 학습자와의 대화를 전사해 구체적인 의사소통 전략 사용 양상을 살펴보았다. Spearman의 순위 상관분석 결과, 한국어능력시험의 성적 및 자기 평가, 한국어 학습 경험과 특정 전략 사용 간에 유의미한 상관관계가 일부 나타났다. 특히 ‘언어 자원의 결합 상황’에서의 전략 사용은 TOPIK 성적 및 자기 평가와 부적 상관관계를 보였으며, ‘자기 발화상의 문제 상황’에서의 전략 사용은 말하기 자기 평가와 정적 상관관계를 나타냈다. 또한, 한국 거주 기간은 전체 전략 사용 빈도와 유의미한 정적 상관관계를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 학습자의 언어 능력 수준에 따라 전략 사용 양상이 달라질 수 있음을 시사하며, 전략 중심의 말하기 교육 설계에 기초 자료를 제공할 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between Korean language proficiency-related factors and the use of communication strategies among Chinese-speaking learners of Korean. The participants consisted of 15 Chinese learners enrolled in Korean universities. Their Korean language proficiency was examined based on their Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) scores, self-assessments, and learning experiences. In addition, transcriptions of learner-researcher conversations were analyzed to explore specific patterns of communication strategy use. The results of Spearman’s rank correlation analysis revealed statistically significant relationships between TOPIK scores, self-assessed proficiency, language learning experiences, and the use of specific communication strategies. In particular, the use of strategies in “resource-related problems” showed a negative correlation with both TOPIK scores and self-assessments, while the use of strategies in “self-expression problems” was positively correlated with self-assessed speaking ability. Furthermore, the length of residence in Korea was positively correlated with the overall frequency of strategy use. These findings suggest that communication strategy use may vary depending on learners’ proficiency levels and provide foundational data for designing strategy-based speaking instruction.
