유아의 그림책 읽기에 대한 의미 이해-Gadamer의 해석학적 순환을 중심으로-

본 연구의 목적은 Gadamer의 해석학적 순환을 통해 그림책을 읽는 것이 유아에게 어떠한 의미가 있는지, 그리고 그 과정에서 유아는 어떻게 그림책을 해석하는지에 대해 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위해 경기도 S시의 A어린이집 유아(4세) 6명의 그림책 읽기 상황을 2020년 2월 1주부터 2020 년 10월 2주까지(3월 제외) 약 8개월 간 참여 관찰하였다. 수집된 자료는 관찰, 면담, 문서 등이며, 해석학적 현상학을 토대로 수집된 자료를 귀납적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 유아는 그림책을읽으면서 해석과 재해석의 과정을 거치는 의미 이해의 순환성을 나타냈다. 둘째, 유아는 고유한역사성을 통해 그림책 해석에 참여하였으며, 경험을 끌어와 자신의 삶이 담긴 이해를 드러냈다. 셋째, 유아는 그림책을 읽으며 자연스럽게 놀이를 생성하기도 하고, 그림책을 읽은 뒤 놀이 속에는 그림책의 이해를 드러내기도 하였다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 유아가 드러내는 생생한 이야기에귀를 기울임으로써, 유아의 그림책 읽기에 대한 의미의 본질을 파악하고 그 과정을 밝히고자 하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand what reading picture books means to young children through Gadamer’s interpretive circle and how young children interpret picture books in the process. To this end, the picture book reading behavior of 4-year-old six children was examined at A Daycare Center in S City, Gyeonggi Province for approximately 8 months in 2020. The collected observations, interviews, and documents were analyzed inductively based on hermeneutic phenomenology. The results are as follows. First, while reading picture books, children showed a cyclicality of understanding meaning that goes through the process of interpretation and reinterpretation. Second, children participated in picture book interpretation through their own historical properties, and drew experiences to reveal their understanding of life. Third, children naturally created play while reading picture books. Afterwards, their understanding of picture books was revealed in the play. This study is meaningful in that it listened to the vivid stories revealed by children, and attempted to grasp the essence of the meaning of children’s picture book reading and understand the process.
