피론주의와 헤겔의 사변 철학 -비판 철학과 사변 철학의 방법론을 중심으로-

칸트가 이율배반을 구성할 때 그가 원용한 것은 회의적 방법이었다. 이율배반론에서 칸트는 어떤 근거에 대해 동등한 권리를 갖는 반대 근거가 성립할 수 있음을 증명하였다. 그런데 이 회의적 방법은 고대 피론주의자들이 고안해내었고 즐겨 구사했던 등치의 방법이었다. 이율배반을 해결할 수 없다면 피론주의자들은 철학의 왕국에서 결정적인 지배권을 행사할 수 있을 것이다. 칸트는 이율배반을 해결하였다. 그는 모순의 원인이 현상과 물자체의 세계를 혼동하는 주관의 착각에 있다고 간주하였다. 그러나 헤겔이 보기에 칸트는 피론주의자들이 제기한 근본적인 물음을 오해하고 있었다. 피론주의자들은 유한한 개념들 자체가 종국에는 모순에 닿을 수밖에 없음을 보여 주었던 것이다. 모순의 문제를 풀기 위해서는 개념들의 운동에 관심을 돌리지 않으면 안 된다는 것을 헤겔은 자각하게 되었다. 이런 점에서 헤겔은 피론주의자들에게 큰 빚을 지고 있는 셈이다. 그러나 헤겔이 발굴한 변증법은 피론주의자들의 등치의 방식과는 다르다. 변증법은 모든 것을 무(無)로 돌리는 파괴행위가 아니라, 그런 파괴의 과정 속에서 새로운 의식이나 개념들을 창출하는 것이다. 등치의 방식이 타자를 절멸시키는 전면적인 부정이라면, 변증법은 타자를 자기화하는 제한적인 부정의 방법적 이념에 의해 인도된다. 그리고 이 제한적인 부정은 사실상 자기관계적 부정성이라는 좀 더 근본적인 방법적 이념을 전제로 삼고 있다. 자기관계적 부정성에 의해 유한한 의식이나 개념들은 모순에 직면하며, 이런 필연적인 모순과의 만남은 곧 모순의 해소를 지시한다. 모순이 해소됨으로써 피론주의도 사변 철학에는 무력하다는 것이 밝혀진다. 피론주의는 사변 철학에 의해 지양된다. 말하자면 피론주의는 사변 철학과 함께 영생을 얻는다.
Abstract
When Kant constructed a theory of antinomies, he made use of ‘the sceptical method’. He demonstrated that to thesis equal antithesis was opposed. By the way, the sceptical method used by Kant is the same as the method of equipollence contrived by ancient pyrrhonists to attack every kind of dogmatism. So it is impossible to overcome pyrrhonism without solving four antinomies. Kant declared to solve the problem of contradiction, insisting that antinomies were caused by subjective confusing appearances with things-in-themselves. But Kant misunderstood the question pyrrhonists had raised from Hegel's point of view. They had shown an inevitable logical contradiction of finite concepts. Therefore philosophers interested in the philosophical truth are supposed to turn attention to the contradiction for defeating philosophical enemies. Hegel's dialectic is to be comprehended in this context. Hegel's dialectic as a philosophical method is similar to the method of equipollence of pyrrhonists, but different. It is not the destruction of all the things. By this process of nullifying finite things it products new things. Negation of dialectical method is not a total negation but a determinated negation. In the fact this negation is leaded by the more fundamental methodological idea, that is, the self-related negativity. This makes finite things confront with contraction. This compelled guidance to the contradiction is already the dissolution of it. At the same time pyrrhonism loses its power because it can not find insoluble others in principle. Pyrrhonism is sublated by speculative philosophy in which it becomes a necessary moment constituting the systematic truth. In other words, pyrrhonism has eternal life with speculative philosophy.
