헤겔과 들뢰즈에서의 기억의 형이상학과 주체의 문제

Abstract

I try to discuss a problem of memory in the crucial texts of Hegel and Deleuze and I try to review the epistemological, metaphysical, cultural-historical and literary meanings which such a problem contains. Hegel notices a role of mind as productive memory and mechanical memory in the texts of ‘psychology’ in Encyclopedia of Philosophical Science. Hegel’s modern subject as the mechanisms of memory is a subject which contains multiple and various moments of time, and isn’t defined as a conscious-central modern subject, but as a multiple subject which is beyond the modernity. Therefore Hegel’s theory of memory can be powerfully used in the realm of history as memory and cultural memory in our own time. Deleuze explains a level of involuntary memory through the passive synthesis of memory which is operated by a passive self in the texts of ‘memory for itself ’ in Difference and Repetition. Such an involuntary memory is connected with memory of eternal return through a creative and future time. Deleuze’s theory of memory can be especially applied to the literature of Proust, and can be interpreted as an archetype of a multiple and de-central subject in post-modern time. Consequently, we try to confirm a position of modern and post-modern subject through the theory of memory in Hegel and Deleuze, and try to seek a creative meaning of our life.
