Abstract

This study analyzes integrated textbooks and teaching materials for singing activities focusing on elementary school grades 1 and 2 according to the 2022 revised curriculum and offers several recommendations. First, there is a need for professional research that comprehensively considers children's development and musical elements in selecting songs for textbooks. Currently, the songs focus primarily on lyrics, lacking sufficient musical aspects. Second, the presentation of songs rarely includes symbolic representations of musical elements, limiting diverse musical experiences. For instance, a lack of visual representations in sheet music can deprive students of opportunities to deepen their understanding of musical information. Third, even in theme-based activities, a fusion approach that reflects the essential elements of each subject is necessary. Musical elements such as pitch, dynamics, and tempo can be crucial connections to other subjects like reading stories or expressing emotions. Lastly, if the music curriculum is not adequately experienced, educational inequality may arise, emphasizing the need for the involvement of music education experts and ongoing research and advocacy. It is essential to secure opportunities for the independent structuring of the music curriculum in the direction of future educational frameworks.
