Abstract
The advent of the intelligent informatization society demands fundamental changes in social structures, the concept of citizenship, and the role of education. This study explores the direction social studies education should pursue in this time of transition, focusing on the reconstruction of the concept of citizenship and the systematization of instructional strategies. To this end, the study examines the historical evolution of citizenship within the contexts of the nation-state era, the era of globalization, and the era of digital and AI advancement. Through this analysis, the study confirms that citizenship in the intelligent informatization society must be understood as a multidimensional competence encompassing technological literacy, ethical reflection, and global sensitivity. Accordingly, the study proposes three new dimensions of citizenship: digital citizenship, global citizenship, and AI-ethical citizenship. Building on these dimensions, five instructional directions are presented: student-led inquiry, critical digital literacy, data-driven problem solving, global sensitivity, and integrated AI ethics education. Each of these is organically linked to the proposed citizenship dimensions and core civic competencies. Based on these instructional directions, the study suggests a dual-structured AIDT-based instructional model, consisting of a specialized model and a generalized model, in order to explore practical instructional designs that bridge tradition and innovation. This research lays the groundwork for translating theoretical discourse on next-generation social studies education into practical application, and calls for future empirical studies to examine the model’s applicability and effectiveness in educational settings.
