본 연구는 인간의 고유영역으로 간주되었던 지적 능력에 인공지능이 도전하는 시대에, 인간을 위한 시민교육의 과제를 탐색하였다. 먼저 제4차 산업혁명시대의 키워드인 AI의 특징과 전개 양상을 살펴보고, 그 결과로 도래할 사회의 변화를 예측하였다. 고차원적인 사고와 업무 처리가 가능한 AI의 출현과 진화는 인간의 고유영역이라 간주해온 인간의 삶에 절대적인 영향을 미칠 수밖에 없다. 따라서 사회과교육은 AI시대에 지속가능한 시민의 삶을 위해 시민교육의 새로운 지표를 설정해야 하는 변곡점에 직면해있다. 20세기 사회는 자본주의에 기반 한 경쟁 중심의 교육이 주류를 이루었다. 인공지능시대의 교육이 주목해야 할 것은 경쟁에 기반 한 능력 있고 효율적 시민의 육성이 아니다. 그것은 자유, 정의, 평등과 같은 인간의 기본권을 추구하는 휴머니즘에 기반 한 인간 중심 교육에 주목해야할 것이다. 본 연구는 21세기 사회 현상에 천착한 선행연구를 바탕으로 시민교육의 방향을 ① AI와의 공진화로 목적적 존재를 추구하는 시민교육, ② 도덕성과 보편적 가치를 추구하는 시민교육으로 제시하였다. 역사 이래로 인간은 자신보다 뛰어난 존재를 조우한 경험이 없다. 인간의 지적 능력의 결과인 인공지능과 이로 인한 사회적 변화에 대해서 시민들의 성찰, 숙의, 합의가 없다면 지속가능한 미래를 확신할 수 없을 것이다.
Abstract
This study examined the characteristics and evolution of AI which is the keyword of the fourth industrial revolution era. In the era of artificial intelligence, which challenges the intellectual ability that has been regarded as a human realm, we have explored the direction of civic education for human beings at theoretical level. The emergence and evolution of AI capable of high - level thinking and dealing, can do nothing but have an absolute impact on human life. Therefore, in the AI period, social studies education is faced with an inflection point that should set a new index of civic education. It is necessary to redefine the direction of civic education in the turning point of a huge paradigm. In the AI period, the direction of citizen education is shown as a new index such as citizen education pursuing objective existence through co-evolution with AI, and citizen education for morality and universal value. Since history, humans have never encountered a superior being than themselves. Without a reflection, deliberation, and agreement on artificial intelligence and social change that are the result of human intelligence, a sustainable future will not be assured.
