Abstract
The Korean diaspora has been studied separately by period and region, and despite the fact that there is a tendency to be gendered in Korean diaspora, it has been discussed as an asexual diaspora. In this regard, Korean women's inheritance has not received much academic attention. In this study, Youngnam Women's Association of picture brides will be analyzed in Korean diasporic communities. The Yeongnam Women's Association was a Korean women's organization formed in the 1920s of Hawaii and was a community of picture brides from Yeongnam. The Yeongnam Women's Association, based on the common experience of picture marriage and regionalism of Yeongnam, showed characteristics of sisterhood, informal economic activities, and political solidarity. In particular, the Women's Association, based on strong sisterhood, provided its members with expanded human and social networks in urban spaces, unlike the previous isolated farm life. In addition, members who were "foreigners without citizenship" were able to accumulate wealth through unofficial economic activities called ‘Korean traditional private funding, Gye’ instead. This type of capital was later used in the resistance movement of the motherland. As such, their political activities, which were non-political beings in the Hawaiian society, can be seen as an active reproduction of the "political ethnicity" inherent in them by immigrant groups. From this point of view, the Yeongnam Women's Association can be defined as the Korean women diasporic community, and also the Asian women's immigrant community created by Hawaii's social structure in the 1920s.
