Abstract
The English Reformation from Roman Catholicism to Protestantism began during the reign of Henry VIII. As the result of the Reformation, England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church; Henry became the head of the Church of England. Consequently, there have been various attempts to eliminate the vestige of Roman Catholicism in England. In particular, there were many changes in religious practices, including those in feast and fasting days. Before the Reformation, the rules for feasting and fasting days were set by the Roman Catholic Church. The Reformation introduced changes to these traditional religious practices. This essay attempts to draw attention to the changes in religious practices made during the feasting and fasting days from Henry VIII to Elizabeth I. In particular, the essay focuses on examining the changes in the meaning of a fish day (fasting day) in the Reformation of the Church of England.
