본 연구는 최근 한국사회에서 일어나고 있는 가족의 변화가 가족 내부의 가족주의적 가치체계나 가족관계를 구성하는 친밀성이라는 미시적인 차원에서의 변동과 밀접한 관련을 갖고 있다는 인식에서 출발하였다. 즉, 가족의 위기나 변화는 한국 가족이 기반으로 하는 가족주의 가치관과 부부 관계, 혹은 부모자녀 관계에서 나타나는 친밀성의 변화로 이해될 수 있으며, 평등과 개인주의라는 근대적 가치와 가족주의라는 전통적 가치가 친밀성의 변형 및 재구성과 연관되어 있음에 주목하는 것이다. 이러한 문제의식에서 본 연구는 기혼 여성의 전통성과 근대적 친밀성이 공존하고 결합할 수 있음을 보여주는 독특한 측면에 논의의 초점을 맞추면서, 가족 구성의 원리 및 가족관계와 일상생활의 재편을 통한 친밀성의 변동 과정을 검토하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 한국 가족에서 가부장적 가족주의가 갖는 의미와 역할을 살피고, 기혼 여성들은 ‘친밀성’을 무엇으로 인식하고 있으며, 일상적 상호작용에서 어떤 방식으로 실천하고 있는지를 분석하였다. 또한 전통적 가족주의가 부부관계와 부모 자녀관계의 친밀성 형성에 어떤 영향을 미치며, 어떠한 방식으로 작동되는가를 검토하였다.
Abstract
The Korean society has experienced the drastic changes of family such as the increase of divorce rate and the decrease of mariage rate/childbirth rate, which are interrelated with the internal construction of familism and intimacy in marital life. The study examines the changes of the Korean family through the life history and family experiences of married women. In-depth interviews, the main method of the study, were conducted with ten maried women aged 30-49 years. The study focuses on the coexistence of traditional familism and modern intimacy in family life, discovering that the Korean family is characterized by the maintenance of familism and the meaning of intimacy which is different from that in the Western context. Specifically, the study examines the significance and role of 'instrumental' familism based on domesticity and the gender division of labor which has influenced on and reinforced class reproduction. It also shows how maried women perceive intimacy, and practices it within family relations. Finally, the study examines how ideology of familism has influenced on constructing intimacy in the relationship between husband and wife as well as parents-children relationship.
