이 글은 애정전기소설의 단명 화소 양상과 문학적 기능을 살피는 데 목적을 둔다. 단명 양상은 심화병, 대리징벌, 위장 살해 등으로 나타난다. <최치원>, <주생전>, <방한림전>의 서사 주체는 ‘몸’ 중심의 가치와 제도에 갇혀 심화병으로 단명한다. <김현감호>, <하생기우전>의 서사 주체는, 개인의 삶을 제도적 이념 속의 구조체로 이끄는 원죄 의식 속에서 대리징벌을 당하며 단명한다. <만복사저포기>와 <이생규장전>, <운영전>과 <김인향전>의 서사 주체는 사회적으로 묵인된 순절 형태의 위장 살해로 단명한다. 단명 화소의 문학적 기능은 현실계에 부재(不在)하는 대상의 공간을 구축하는 필요재로 작동한다. 단명 주체들은 전란터와 궁궐터, 궁벽한 숲에서 발견된다. 단명 화소는 그녀들의 기억을 소환하고 의도적으로 소멸시킨 문제를 함의한 공간을 축조한다. 또한 애정을 위하여 생사의 경계를 넘나든 방문자 캐릭터 계보를 마련하였다. 애정전기소설의 서사 주체들은 단명할 수밖에 없었던 문제의 부당성과 그것을 묵인한 사회적 방기 현상을 고발한다. 이 지점에서 단명 화소는 현실을 성토하는 소통 창구로 유용하게 활용되었다.
Abstract
This article aims to examine the short-lived nature and literary function of Love fantasy novels. The forms of short life are manifested in different ways, such as mental illness, vicarious punishment, and fake murder. The narrative subjects of <Choe Chi-won>, <Ju Saeng-jeon>, and <Bang Han-rim-jeon> die young from mental illness, trapped in the values and systems centered on the “body.” The narrative subjects of <Kim Hyeon-gam-ho> and <Ha-saeng-gi-u-jeon> suffer vicarious punishment and die young in the consciousness of original sin that leads an individual’s life to a structure within institutional ideology. The narrative subjects of <Manboksajeopogi>, <Lee Saeng-gyu Jang-jeon>, <Unyeong-jeon>, and <Kim In-hyang-jeon> die young through fake murder in the form of socially accepted martyrdom. Short-lived materials performed the literary function of constructing a space for the dead. It also performed a literary function in that it established a lineage of visiting characters who crossed the boundary between life and death solely for love. They denounce the injustice of short-lived problems and the social phenomena that tolerate them. Love fantasy novels were used as a means of communication to denounce contemporary issues through short stories.
