이 논문은 현대적 인종차별주의의 한 형태인 혐오적 인종차별주의를 감소시키기 위한 도덕과교육의 방안을 모색하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 전통적인 오래된 인종차별주의자들과는 달리 혐오적 인종차별주의자들은 모든 집단에 대한 공평하고 공정한 처우를 승인하지만 무의식적으로 타 인종에 대한 불편한 감정을 지니고 있기에 그들과의 인종 간 상호작용을 회피하려는 시도를 한다. 혐오적 인종차별주의를 감소시키기 위해 도덕과에서는 인류평등주의적 가치의 실천을 강조하는 가운데, 인종에 대한 오개념과 부정적 고정관념을 제거하고, 차별의 피해자가 되어 보게 하는 공감 훈련의 기회를 제공하며, 공통의 내집단 정체성을 형성해보게 하는 활동을 전개하고, 이질집단을 활용한 협동학습을 활성화해야 한다.
Abstract
As Korean society changes into multicultural society, racism continues be a new pervasive problem throughout the country. Racism is based on beliefs and reflected in behaviors that accept race a biological entity and maintain that racial groups, other than one's own, are intellectually, psychologically, and physically inferior. Recently prejudice and racism tend to find expression in more subtle ways. Aversive racists, in contrast to old-fashioned racists, endorse fair and just treatment of all groups, but they unconsciously harbor feelings of uneasiness toward Blacks, and thus try to avoid interracial interaction. When interracial interaction is unavoidable, aversive racists experience anxiety and discomfort, and consequently they try to disengage from the interaction as quickly as possible. In order to mitigate this type of racism, moral educators should teach students that race is not a biological concept but sociopolitical concept, give students various opportunities for empathy training, utilize common in-group identity model, and use cooperative learning based on heterogeneous groups.
