본 연구의 목적은 게슈탈트치료 이론의 관점에서 트라우마 개념을 고찰하고 게슈탈트 트라우마 치료의 유용성을 제고하는 것이다. 이를 위해 게슈탈트치료와 트라우마에 관한 주요 문헌 및 선행연구를 검토하였다. 그 결과 게슈탈트치료에서 트라우마는 해소되어야 할 대표적인 미해결 과제로 개념화할 수 있으며 게슈탈트치료는 내용 중심의 하향식 접근이 갖는 한계를 넘어 신체 감각에 대한 과정 중심의 상향식 접근을 통합적으로 적용한다는 점에서 트라우마 치료에 잘 부합한다는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 트라우마에 대한 게슈탈트치료의 효과성을 경험적으로 검증한 연구는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 현대 정신건강 체계 내에서 근거기반치료에 대한 요구가 증가하는 것을 고려할 때 게슈탈트 트라우마 치료에 대한 보다 활발한 연구가 요구된다.
Abstract
The aim of this study is to review the concept of trauma from the Gestalt therapy perspective and discuss the potential utility of Gestalt therapy in the treatment of trauma. The results of literature review are as follows: Firstly, trauma is conceptualized in the Gestalt therapy literature as unfinished business that need to be resolved. Secondly, Gestalt therapy is well suited to treatment of trauma in that it integrates process-oriented bottom-up approach that can compensate for the limitations of content-oriented top-down approach. However, empirical studies of Gestalt trauma therapy are very limited. With the increased requirement for evidence-based treatment in the mental health system, more rigorous researches are needed.
