Abstract

The recent international situation is showing signs of a domino effect of war spreading not only to Northeast Asia but also to Russia-Ukraine and the entire Middle East, making the peaceful cooperation that had continued for a while since the end of the Cold War pale in comparison. As many countries are suffering due to this international conflict, North Korea is not hesitating to engage in political and military provocations in order to neutralize the economic sanctions of the international community, strengthen solidarity with Russia, and enhance its status as a nuclear-armed state. In order to consider what kind of response posture and spirit our military and people should have in this serious situation, this study focuses on how Afghanistan, which the United States tried to change by pouring a huge cost of 200 billion won, has been affected by the strategic change of the United States, and what the consequences were of the corruption and lack of fighting spirit among the Afghan military and leadership during the process of promoting the reconstruction of Afghanistan. As the world knows, the United States shifted its military focus from the Middle East to Northeast Asia after the 9/11 terrorist attacks were somewhat successful. This reminds us of the lesson that military alliances are ultimately based on the interests of each country and can become scraps of paper at any time, and that a country that does not have self-rescue efforts and a people that are not mentally armed will eventually collapse. South Korea should learn from this lesson. First, it should make efforts to maintain a continuous exchange relationship with the USFK by getting rid of the illusion that the alliance will be permanent, and at the same time, it should make efforts to secure independent security capabilities and enhance the people's sense of national security.
