이 論文은 『萬人譜』에 나타난 民族 共同體의 樣相을 분석함으로써 궁극적으로 우리 사회가 지닌 민족 공동체의 多層性을 파악하려는 데 목적을 두었다. 『萬人譜』에 나타난 1930․40년대의 고향 세계는 前近代的 성격을 지닌 사회로 그려진다. 여기서의 민족 공동체는 傳統 倫理와 言語的 同質性을 매개로 한 情緖的 同一性을 강조한다. 반면에 근대 사회로의 이행기라는 특성을 보여주는 1950년대의 공동체는 보다 근대적 개인으로 구성되어 있으면서, 전쟁이라는 경험을 통해 국가에 대한 歸屬 의지를 확고히 하게 된다. 끝으로 1970년대는 支配階層과 彼支配階層의 대립이 民族的인 것과 反民族的인 것을 兩分化하지만, 민족 인식에 대한 反省과 省察이 동시에 나타나는 점으로 미루어 볼 때 이러한 二分法的 인식이 민족을 규정할 수 없음을 암시한다. 『萬人譜』에 나타난 공동체의 양상은 민족 공동체가 사회적 요구에 따라 변화하는 多層的 성격을 보여준다.
Abstract
This thesis studies various aspects of Nation in ‘Maninbo'. Ultimately, it aims for investigation of Korean society's nation. The feature of 1930’s community in ‘Maninbo' is that the people seem to keep traditional morals and ideas. First of all, the 1930's community consists of family and relatives. The thing keeping this community's traditional morals is mutual cooperation. Therefore this traditional community is like a ethnic community. But the feature of the 1950's in Maninbo is that the people seem to be modernized. For example they have modern occupations and they express modern emotions. So the 1930's community is different from the 1950's community. On the other hand, the 1950's people are individualistic. They don't connected with other people through relation- ships. However, common experience and the memory of Korean War gives them a sense of belonging that they are in the same nation state. Therefore, they can imagine the nation and the nation identity. The community of the 1970's shows antagonism between the governing class and the people. Also, it is the reflection of ambivalent nation's concept. As such, each community's character is different from each other. Therefore we should accept the nation as plural identity.
