여학생의 이성교제 경험에 관한 근거이론 연구-어머니의 태도를 중심으로

본 연구는 여학생들이 이성교제에 관해 어머니와의 상호작용 속에서 경험하고 의미하는 바를 이해하는 것을 목적으로 8명의 여학생들과의 심층면접을 통해 수집한 자료를 근거이론에 기초하여 분석하였다. 자료의 분석결과, 어머니들은 청소년 시기에 자녀들과 이성교제 및 성에 대해 함께 공유하며 의견을 나누지 못하였고, 이성교제를 비롯한 청소년들의 다양한 관심 분야에 대해서는 ‘학업’과 ‘대학입시’의 장애물로 간주하여 관심을 기울이지 못하는 경향이 있었다. 참여자들의 입장에서 어머니들은 학업에 방해가 되는 외모, 이성교제, 취미활동에 대해서는 금지하거나 ‘대학에 가서’라고 미루었고, 이성교제를 할 경우 사귀지 못하도록 하는 강한 개입과 순결이데올로기를 지속적으로 보내는 것으로 나타났다. 자녀들이 남자친구를 사귀게 되면 어머니들은 ‘통제하고 불안해하며’ 딸의 이성교제와 관련된 다양한 행동에 강한 개입을 하고 걱정을 하였다. 이러한 과정에서 참여자들은 이성교제에서 어머니의 기준이나 사고에 따라 자신의 행동이나 태도를 맞추려는 입장을 취하였다. 어머니의 딸의 이성교제에 대한 통제와 개입은 청소년기에 접어들면서 이성교제 및 성에 대해 보다 자유로운 논의를 하지 못하였기 때문에 더욱 강하게 나타나는 것으로 보였다. 또한 참여자들은 이성교제에 대한 어머니의 강한 개입에 맞서는 저항논리를 또래집단과의 지속적인 관계 속에서 형성하고 내면화하기 보다는 소극적 수용을 통해 어머니와의 극단적인 대면을 기피하는 태도를 취하였다.
Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify and understand the female students' perception of their mother's attitudes about their relationship with a boyfriend. In-depth interviews were conducted with 8 female students aged 15-17 years and data were analyzed using a grounded theory. The analysis of the data showed that mothers do not tend to talk with the research participants about a variety of interests of the participants including the relationship with boyfriends during their daughter's adolescence because they think that those things were main barriers to concentrating on ‘studying’ and ‘going to good college’. The participants perceived that their mothers continuously had sent them messages about not doing such things that could be considered to be barriers to study, including making a boyfriend and extra curriculum activities, and about keeping their virginal purity. Then as soon as the participant started to date with her boyfriend, then their romantic relationship was controlled from their mother. The continuous interaction between the participant and the mother about the issue of their romantic relationship a boyfriend and purity ideology resulted that the participants do not internalize a different and resistant thoughts against those of mother's generation about their relationship with a boyfriend. Rather, they were more likely to accept their mother's ideology on the romantic relationship and purity while doing differently from what their mother taught them.
