가정 외 보호유형에 따른 보호제공자와의 유대관계가 아동의 우울과 공격성에 미치는 영향: 자아존중감의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 양육시설, 공동생활가정 및 위탁가정아동들의 보호제공자와의 유대관계가 우울, 공격성에 영향을 미치는데 있어 자아존중감의 매개효과를 조사하였다. 연구대상은 충북지역의 양육시설, 공동생활가정 및 위탁가정에서 보호를 받고 있는 초등 5학년부터 중 3까지 525명(양육시설 187명, 공동생활가정 70명, 가정위탁 268명)의 아동이다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 자아존중감의 매개효과를 파악하기 위해 보호유형별로 단계별 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 세 가지 보호유형 중 공동생활가정아동의 보호제공자와의 유대관계, 자아존중감이 다른 유형의 아동보다 유의하게 높았고, 우울과 공격성은 유의하게 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 모든 보호유형에서 보호제공자와의 유대관계는 아동의 우울과 공격성에 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 자아존중감은 우울과 공격성을 매개하였다. 특히 공동생활가정아동의 자아존중감은 우울에 완전매개효과가 있었으며, 부분매개효과를 보여준 타 보호유형 아동과 차이를 보였다. 그러므로, 공동생활가정에 대한 보다 체계적인 관리와 지원 및 연구가 필요하며, 보호제공자와의 긍정적 유대관계 형성과 같은 개입을 통한 아동의 자아존중감 향상은 심리사회적 적응문제의 개선을 기대할 수 있다.

Abstract

This study compares three different out-of-home care placement types in terms of the quality of caregiver-child relationship and the developmental outcomes of the children receiving welfare services. More specifically, caregiver-child relationship perceived by children, self-esteem, and depression and aggression of children who are placed in residential institution, group homes, and foster homes are investigated. Researchers are interested in (1) children's varied developmental outcomes according to the different types of out-of-home care (2) effects of caregiver-child relationship on depression and aggression of children with a focus on the mediating role of self-esteem. Five hundred twenty five children of the 5th to 8th graders who reside at the these three different care facilities filled out questionnaires. Data were analyzed by stepwise regression analysis with SPSS 18.0 version. Results showed significant relationships between placement types and placement outcomes. Children of group homes perceived the caregiver-chid relationship more positively, showed higher self-esteem, lower level of depression and aggression than their peers in institutional care and foster homes. In addition, caregiver-child relationship is a strong predictor of children's developmental outcome regardless of types of care. Self-esteem proved to have a mediating effect on depression and aggression overall. These findings suggest that the smaller, more home-like out-of-home care have more positive outcomes than institutional care and the quality of care provider is critical in children's development. Implications on foster home care reform nd program development focusing on promoting children's self-esteem are discussed.
