본 연구의 목적은 청년기 이성교제가 개인의 삶에 어떠한 의미가 있는지, 대학생 시기의 이성교제를 통해 일상생활에서 어떠한 질적인 변화를 경험하는지에 대해 보다 깊이있는 이해를 추구하는 것이다. 본 연구에는 서울에 있는 모 여대에서 2004년도 제 2학기에 ‘현대사회와 가정’ 과목을 수강하면서 학생들이 제출한 ‘연애와 나, 연애를 통해 변화된 나’라는 보고서 52부와 여대생 5명의 개인 인터뷰가 연구 자료로 활용되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이성교제가 금기사항에서 의무사항으로 변화하였지만, 준비나 인식부족으로 인한 실패, 그리고 연애나 남성에 대한 환상을 깨는 계기가 되었다. 둘째, 남자친구의 존재와 반응으로 인해 자아존중감이 높아지고 정서적 안정감을 얻었다고 한다. 셋째, 이성교제를 하면서 일상생활이나 생활패턴이 모두 남자친구 중심으로 변화하는 경험을 한다. 넷째, 이성친구와의 교제 과정에서 성에 관한 갈등을 경험하면서 성에 대한 자신의 가치관을 되돌아보는 계기가 된다. 다섯째, 청년기의 이성교제는 남자, 연애, 인간관계, 결혼 등에 대해 새롭게 자신의 가치관을 정립하게 하며, 스스로를 돌아볼 수 있는 성숙의 계기를 만들어 자신에 대한 새로운 발견을 하게 해준다는 의미가 강한 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the subjective experiences of female college students about their romantic relationship. 52 protocol writings and 5 in-depth interview texts were developed, and conducted by qualitative content analysis. It turned out that most of these female students experienced sudden environmental changes which dating became an obligatory matter from tabooing item during high school years. Romantic involvement to these participants is associated with making high self-esteem as well as reinforcing traditional feminity. And as they get involved more, they withdraw from their friends and families, creating anxiety in the other social network. They were tired of negotiating with their partner over the sexual behavior, and this makes them to think over their own sexual attitudes and values. They had experienced personal growth such as self-reliance and interpersonal skills following romantic relationship breakups.
