서양 선교사들에 의한 로마자 표음 체계로 저술된 다양한 중국어 교과서의 저술은 초기 중국어 교육의 면모를 보여주는, 교육사의 연구에 있어 매우 가치 있는 자료라고 할 수 있다. 미국인 선교사인 狄考文은 馬禮遜, 艾約瑟, 威妥瑪의 계보를 잇는 선교사이자 훌륭한 언어학자였다. 《官話類編》은 狄考文이 1867년부터 1892년에 이르는 25년이란 기간 동안 저술한 그간의 중국어에 대한 연구와 교육에 대한 노하우가 집대성된 교재라 할 수 있다. 이 책은 실제 구어 위주로 내용이 편성되었을 뿐만 아니라 狄考文의 실제 방언조사에 의해 南京, 九江, 登州, 濰縣, 重慶의 발음이 수록되어 있다. 북경관화는 《官話類編》에서 당시 가장 유행하는 주류 관화 방언으로, 공식적인 관방 언어라고 인식되었다. 또한 疑母 소실, 見, 精組 합류, iai운모, 梗曾攝, 宕江攝, 通攝의 文白異讀은 《官話類編》과 기타 북경관화 저작에서 공통적으로 보이는 특징이다. 현대 표준 중국어에서 iai운모는 소실되었다. 한편, 남경관화는 남방지역에서 폭넓게 이해되는 관화로 인정받았으며, 見, 精組 대립, n, l성모와 n, ŋ운미의 혼동, 疑母 소실, iai운모 및 입성운미 보존을 특징으로 하고 있으며 이러한 특징은 《官話類編》과 기타 남경관화 저작에서 공통적으로 나타난다.
Abstract
The writing of various Chinese-language textbooks authored by Western missionaries in the system of Romanization is a valuable material in the study of the history of education, showing the aspects of early Chinese education. An American missionary, Calvin mateer was a missionary and a good linguist who connected genealogy of Morrison and Edkins.《A course of mandarin Lessons, based on idiom》 knowledge of the study and education of Chinese, which he wrote over a period of 25 years from 1867 to 1892, is a concentrated textbook. The book is based on real spoken language and contains the pronunciation of Nanking, Kiukiang, Peking and Weixian. Beijing Kuanhua was recognized as the most popular mainstream guanghwa dialect of the time in 《Mandarin Lessons》 and as the official guangbang language. Meanwhile, Nanking Kuan hua was recognized as a widely understood irrigation painting in the southern region.
