이 연구는 일본 소학교 사회과 교과서에 나타난 세계지리의 표상방식에 관한 분석을 시도하고 있다. 해당 세계지리단원은 자국과의 관계 속에서 그 밀접성이 분명한 타국을 주요 학습대상으로 선정하고 있었다. 그런데, 타국 선정의 결과와 단원에서의 배열 방식은 출판사마다 차별적인 접근법을 보이고 있었다. 타국 선정 결과를 보건대, 중국과 미국은 모든 출판사에서 선정하고 있었지만, 나머지 국가들은 차이가 있었다. 아울러, 단원의 전개 과정에서 타국들의 배열하는 방식 역시 차별적이었다. 타국 배열의 원칙이 지리적인 근접성이 아니라 자국과의 관계성에 있었다. 이것은 교과서 저자들이 자국과 타국 사이 관계성을 파악하는 방식, 그리고 이것을 학습자에게 중재시키는 방식에서 차이를 보이고 있는 것으로 파악된다. 한편, 세계지리단원이 자국과의 관계성 속에서 타국인식을 수행하는 양상으로 구조화되기에, 세계지리학습이 글로벌 학습으로 재개념화되는 측면도 있었다. 즉, 타국의 지리를 자국과의 상호의존성 체계로 학습하기에 종국에는 글로벌 커넥션이라는 아이디어의 획득으로까지 나아가기 때문이다.
Abstract
The focus of this study is to examine representation method of world geography in Japanese elementary social studies textbooks. The main feature of this representation method are interrelationships between inner country and other country in world geography textbooks. By the way, the result of selecting other country and sequence order of that country differ from textbooks. According to results from the analysis, China and USA are selected from all textbooks, but choices of other countries differ from textbooks. The principle of sequencing other countries is not a geographical proximity but interconnectedness among two countries. From the this representation, we can read that authors of textbooks have differential strategies on the way of understanding interrelationship between the Japan and other countries. Also, the emphasis of this interrelationship result in the reconceptualization of world geography learning as global studies education. Namely, when children learn this interrelationship, they can attain educational perspectives that can understand global connections.
