초록
This article is intended to show syntactic analyses of ‘Enn/Neun’. These were considered as semantic and pragmatic elements because their meaning includes the concept of information structure. In Korean language, it is commonly known that they have three meanings namely, Topic, Contrastive Topic and Contrastive Focus. This article shows syntactic analyses of these three meanings of Eun/Neun. First of all, Topic Phrase(TopP) is generated right under Force Phrase and Topic features are checked by movement. This naturally shows how case markers are detached when they move to the spec of TopP. With this structure, it can be explained why Eun/Neun does not appear in relative clauses. Relative markers are located right over TP. but Topic Phrase is generated over relatives markers. and This topic phrase also can be divided by big and small topic phrases to accommodate two different topics. Second, Contrastive Topic feature is also checked by movement. and It has different position from Topic in syntactic structure. Contrastive Topic Phrase(CTP) is generated under TP. this naturally shows how case markers are detached when they move to the spec of CTP. Third, Contrastive Focus feature is not checked by movement. but it needs two steps. First, movement to the spec of CTP and then Information Focus is added. this means Contrastive Topic and Contrastive Focus share the same first step. That’s why the meaning and the derivation of these two are very similar. Contrastive Focus is used to express interests only in selected individual in an alternative sets while Contrastive topic has interests in unselected individual. and lastly, this article also shows that particles ‘Maneun’ is a contrastive focus maker.
