한국어교육에서 문어 입력 수정이 읽기 이해에 미치는 영향

본고는 텍스트 수정의 두 가지 방법인 ‘단순화’와 ‘상세화’가 한국어교육 학습자들의 읽기 이해에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보았다. 30명의 한국어 중급‧고급 학습자들을 대상으로 하여 ‘원본’, ‘단순화본’, ‘상세화본’으로 개발한 읽기 텍스트를 제공하고 읽기 이해도를 측정하였다. 모두 세 그룹으로 나누어 진행된 실험에서 각 그룹마다 네 개의 지문에 세 개의 문제, 총 12개의 이해도 측정 문제를 풀게 하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 실험 결과 세 텍스트 그룹을 서로 비교했을 때 원본을 수정 변형한 두 그룹들(단순화 텍스트 그룹과 상세화 텍스트 그룹)의 정답률이 원본 텍스트 그룹에 비해 높은 것을 알수 있었다. 이는 참가자들이 이해를 돕기 위해 수정 변형을 가한 텍스트를 읽었을 때가수정을 가하지 않은 원본을 읽었을 때보다 주어진 텍스트를 더 잘 이해할 수 있었다는것을 의미한다. 이 같은 결과는 영어권의 선행연구들의 결과와도 일치된 내용이다(Oh,2001; Chung, 1995; Yano et al., 1994). 따라서 한국어교육 상황에서도 구어에서와마찬가지로 문어에서도 입력 수정이 학습자의 이해 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 준다고 할수 있다.
Abstract
This study investigates the relative effects of two types of input modificationsimplification and elaboration－on Korean learners’ reading comprehension. Three Korean reading passages in one of three forms, baseline, simplified or elaborated,were presented to 30 Korean learners. Comprehension was assessed by an 12-item multiple-choice test. The results support the suggestion that both simplification and elaboration increase L2 reading comprehension. Although elaboration seemed to be more effective than simplification, there was no significant difference between the effects of simplification and elaboration. This study suggests that elaboration is an effective way because elaboration retains more nativelike qualities than simplification in improving L2 comprehension.
