Abstract

Men's and women's titles in Korea vary depending on gender, marital status, and family relationships. The Korean culture of men's and women's titles traditionally uses various titles depending on age and relationship with the other person. Recently, there have been voices advocating for a change in this calling culture. Therefore, we are seeking to reform sexist titles and use more equal and easier ones. Despite ongoing discussions, no significant progress has been made. And the order of gender in words means the use of men and women separately when using specific words or gives the image of gender preferential treatment that comes first. Many people find this hard. Conventional titles sometimes cause inconvenience. There is a typical vocabulary in which men come first and women come second. This article will examine the causes of this problem from a gender perspective and discuss what needs to be done to solve it. Along with the issue of titles, there are elements of gender discrimination that are deeply rooted in the language. This can be attributed to the Confucian tradition and the family-centered social structure that has long existed in Korean society. Although discussions are underway to improve sexist terms and seek changes in the direction of using more equal and easy terms, significant changes are not yet visible in society. We must avoid language expressions that antagonize and disparage the potential first and second partners in words. In Korean society, we need education that fosters equality between men and women. We should strive to guarantee equal opportunities for all genders.
