마타요시 문학 속의 ‘조선인’ 표상 연구 -『긴네무집』을 중심으로-

Abstract

In postwar Okinawan literature, Matayosi Eiki's The Ginnemu Yashiki, which has Koreans as the central figure, is a work that absolutely requires a socio󰠏historical context for its interpretation. First, in the analysis, the work is divided into 1953, the time of the narrative, and 1980, the time of its writing. In Chapter 2, it was noted that 1953 was when U.S. military rule ended and Japan began as a sovereign state, but Okinawa was still occupied, while on the Korean Peninsula, it was a historical time period of the so󰠏called beginning of subordination when U.S. military rule began along with the ceasefire of the Korean War. By examining the spatiality of the inside and outside of The Ginnemu Yashiki, this work regarded that the opposition of “Okinawa versus the United States and Japan,” which was the basic composition under the “American world,” was being revised to “Okinawa versus the Korean Peninsula.” The general symbol of the trauma of the Okinawa battle, which the United States and Japan “camouflaged” through Ginnemu, was being demolished and converted into the sacrifice and trauma of the residents of the Korean Peninsula. Chapter 3 took notice of the situation around 1980, the time of writing. The situation after Okinawa's return to Japan (1972) was specified by superimposing the situation in 1953. That is, as the economy was revitalized in Okinawa when “Korean newcomers” arrived. At the same time, Korean “comfort women” came out and the fact that the Koreans who were sacrificed in Okinawa were not properly compensated was criticized internally and externally. Accordingly, it was concluded that Matayosi was criticizing the limitations of Okinawan literature including himself, which had been hesitating in between the United States and Japan without discerning the violence and harmfulness that began from before the war and persisted until after the war.
