Abstract
This study investigates the controlling shareholders ownership and internal capital market’s investment efficiency in Korean Chaebol business groups using panel data on total 3,677 Korean listed firms. The analysis period was from 2002 to 2021. The empirical analysis results are as follows. First, it was confirmed that the higher the cash flow of affiliates of Korean Chaebols, the greater the incentive for overinvestment, but this incentive decreases as the controlling shareholder’s ownership ratio increases. Second, it was confirmed that the higher the cash flow of affiliates of Korean Chaebols, the lower the possibility of underinvestment problems, but it was not possible to confirm the effect of the controlling shareholder’s ownership on this relationship.
