Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between social support perceived from teachers and peers and task performance are changed in middle school dance classes. Subjects were 603 middle school students (324 males, 279 females), completed to a set of questionnaires measuring social support, value perception, self-efficacy, expectancy beliefs, and task performance. For data analysis descriptive statistics, correlation, and moderated regression were conducted. The results of regression analyses show that students’perceptions of social support from teachers and peers had a positive impact on task performance through self-efficacy as a mediator. The results of moderated regression analysis indicated that the positive effect of self-efficacy on task performance was far greater when students’expectancy beliefs of learning output was high. These results suggest that dance educators should support their students in various ways in order to make efforts persistently for doing their learning task. It also important that students should keep positive beliefs of learning results, imposing a higher value of learning task with strong self-confidence for successful performance in a dance class.
