Abstract

Based on self-efficacy theory (Bandura, 1986) and self-regulated learning theory (Zimmerman, 2011), the major purpose of this study were to investigate the relationships between the constructs of self-efficacy, self-regulated learning, and engagement in dance classes. A total of 352 university dance students participated in the study. Data were conducted via structural equation modeling and multi-group analysis. The results of structural equation modeling show that students’ self-efficacy were a predictor of positive and negative outcome expectancy, self-regulated learning, and class engagement. Students’self-efficacy indirectly influenced on engagement in dance classes throughout positive negative outcome expectancy and self-regulated learning strategy. The results of multi- group analysis indicates that the relationships among self-efficacy, outcome expectancies, self- regulated learning, and engagement in class were invariant across dance careers. These findings suggest that it is required for students to regulate their cognition, motivation, and behaviors effectively and to have a strong belief for successful performance.
