Abstract

Does Internet promote democracy? This is the most important debate on Internet in political science since 1980s. However this debate set into myth: 'Internet diffusion affects on development of democracy' because lack of critical evidence. The purpose of this research is quite clear: verifying the myth of internet with the pilot statistical model. To verify the myth, this research is focused on behavior of authoritarian states on Internet diffusion which could be considered as counterevidence of the myth. The result shows that authoritarian states are more positively reacted on diffusing Internet and this was caused by characteristic of authoritarian state itself. In this point of view, the myth of Internet-democracy can be regarded to exist, however, some critical points for strict verification are still remaining.
