Abstract
The increase in the proportion of foreigners in the population naturally accompanied the increase of crimes committed by foreigners. Most of the previous studies on foreigners’ crimes mainly investigated the pattern of crimes committed by foreigners, and studies on how the distribution of foreign residents or activities in the community relates to the overall level of crime in the community have not received much attention. This study utilized the social disorganization theory and community revitalization hypothesis and investigated how the ratio of foreign residents and the number of present foreigners in an administrative dong give influence on homicide, robbery, sexual violence, violence and Larceny. As an analysis method, a Spatial Lag Model was utilized among the spatial regression analysis methods. The ratio of foreigners living in the community showed insignificant results in any dependent variable, and the number of present foreigners significantly increased the level of murder. In the case of violence and larceny, it was not significant at the significance level of 0.5, but it was significant when it was expanded to the level of 1.0. This result did not support the social disorganization theory. However, in the administrative dong where the number of present foreigners is high, murder appears to increase significantly, and it can be seen that murder increases due to the criminal geometry of environmental criminology.
