기후변화, 환경오염, 자원고갈, 기아와 난민 등의 생태적 혼란 속에서 음악연구가 어떤 역할을 할 수 있을지 고민하며, 생태음악학의 개념과 역할을 논하였다. 특히, 사운드스케이프를 중심으로 살펴보았는데, 사운드스케이프를 음악으로 수용할 수 있는지의 가능성, 그리고 사회적 실천으로서의 역할을 어떻게 실현할 수 있는지 탐색하였다. 이 과정에서 음악의 개념 및 범주에 관한 역사성을 고찰했으며, 소음의 맥락적인 성질을 살펴보았다. 2010년경에 독자적인 분야로 발전된 음악생태학은 소리와 인간, 인간과 인간, 그리고 인간과 환경 간의 ‘순환적인 연결성’을 근거로 삼으며, 다각도의 통합적인 연구를 통해 생태비평적인 역할을 하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study examines the role that music research can play during an ecological catastrophe such as climate change, environmental pollution, resource depletion, hunger, and refugee by examining the concept and role of ecomusicology. Focusing on soundscapes, I explore the possibility of accepting soundscapes as music and investigate how to realize their role as a social practice. In this process, the historicality of the concept and category of music is considered, and the contextual nature of noise examined. Ecomusicology, coined as an independent field around 2010, is believed to provide eco-criticism through integrated research from diverse viewpoints, by emphasizing the ‘cyclical relationships’ between sound, humans, and nature.
