Abstract
On October 7, 2023, when the Israel-Hamas war broke out, the international community expressed strong concerns about the conflict escalating into a wider Middle Eastern war. However, as this war occurred in the context of a reconciliation atmosphere between the Gulf countries and Israel, initiated by the Abraham Accords of 2020, the Gulf countries adopted a cautious stance towards the conflict. Additionally, within the Gulf countries, each nation responded differently. The varying attitudes of the Gulf countries towards the Israel-Hamas war were also reflected in the reports of major Pan-Arab media outlets, Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, which are owned by the Qatari and Saudi monarchies, respectively. Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya have played roles in disseminating the propaganda of their respective monarchies. This study compared the differences in reporting by Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya during the Israel-Hamas war. The research found that Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya reported on key actors in the conflict, such as Hamas, Israel, Iran, and Shia proxy groups, from different perspectives. In other words, the reporting patterns of this war confirmed that the two monarchies aimed to exert influence in regional politics through their state media.
