Abstract
This study identifies tourism motivation factors of visitors to Yeongwol, segments visitors accordingly, and analyzes differences in demographics and travel behaviors among the segments. Data were collected via an online survey using mobile web links and QR codes, with 433 valid responses analyzed. Factor analysis revealed four motivation dimensions: history, culture, and exploration; SIT experience and local consumption; leisure sports and camping; and natural scenery and relaxation. Cluster analysis categorized visitors into three groups: nature and relaxation seekers, experiential-gourmet, and casual visitors, with the experiential-gourmet group comprising 61.8%. Significant differences were found among clusters in length of stay, travel companions, and visit purpose. Millennials and Generation Z emerged as key consumers driving regional economic revitalization and sustainable tourism. Their diverse needs call for innovative and participatory tourism policies. This study highlights the importance of customized marketing strategies and strategic approaches to sustainable tourism development that consider visitors’ interest in natural and cultural resources. The findings provide practical implications for enhancing competitiveness and sustainability in regional tourism.
