Abstract
Memorable tourism experiences (MTE) are known to retain stability over time, unlike ordinary memories; however, few studies have empirically examined this assumption. This study aims to identify the factors that constitute genuinely stable MTE by conducting a multi-temporal analysis of 10,222 TripAdvisor reviews written by international tourists who visited Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. Each review’s time gap between travel date and posting date was calculated, and the reviews were categorized into four time intervals: 0-90, 91-180, 181-270, and 271-360 days. For each interval, topic modeling and emotion classification were conducted. Top keywords and average emotion scores were compiled into union vectors, and cosine similarity was calculated to assess the content and emotional stability of MTE factors across time. The results provide empirical evidence for the temporal stability of MTE components, addressing prior methodological limitations. Furthermore, by identifying MTE from a collective memory perspective using user-generated content, this study proposes a practical framework for tourism managers to apply directly in site-level experience design and marketing strategies.
