초록

Recently, Taebaek City has been facing a dual crisis of declining tourist numbers and economic stagnation. This study aims to address these challenges by analyzing the differences in travel behavior, perceptions, and motivations between non-local tourists and local residents, and based on these findings, proposes sustainable tourism revitalization strategies. The results indicate that non-local tourists prefer activities such as enjoying natural landscapes, relaxing in nature, and hiking/trekking, while local residents show a greater preference for summit climbing, participating in local festivals/events, and camping. In terms of travel motivation, non-local tourists place greater importance on enjoyment, social interaction, experiential activities, facility use, accessibility, and reasonable travel costs. In contrast, local residents are more likely to visit Taebaek City for a sense of achievement. Both groups highly recognize the value and importance of Taebaeksan’s natural resources and agree that Taebaeksan National Park should further strengthen its ecosystem conservation efforts. To revitalize tourism in Taebaek City, both groups emphasized the importance of promoting a travel theme that allows visitors to experience "well-preserved natural scenery" and expressed a shared interest in developing and utilizing "healing and wellness programs" within Taebaeksan National Park. This study highlights the necessity of developing tailored tourism content and policies that reflect the distinct travel behaviors and perceptions of non-local tourists and local residents. Furthermore, sustainable tourism strategies are expected to enhance the competitiveness of Taebaek City’s tourism sector.
