Abstract
This paper was born out of an interest in the miscellanies contained in the Joseon Dynasty literature. To this end, we conducted an exhaustive survey of the miscellaneous records included in the miscellany sections of the anthologies in the Yeong-nam region to organize the list and provide a general overview. As a result, we found a large number of miscellaneous records included in the miscellany section of the anthologies, and we also found that the contents were not limited to miscellaneous records. This paper aims to shed light on the nature of miscellaneous records by focusing on the Yadamgimun contained in the collection of Nam Gong-soo’s writings, Yeong-eunjip Nam Gong-soo’s Yadamgimun is basically an anthology that the author completed by adding two anecdotes based on the yadam contained in Kwon Tae-ryong’s Yingwayugo. However, since the Yingwayugo has not been excavated, it is difficult to verify the original narrative, but through Nam Gong-soo’s Yadamgimun, we can find out about the intentions and tendencies of the author who compiled the collection, including the original narrative. It is understood that Nam Gong-soo’s Yadamgimun was compiled with the intention of contributing to worldly proselytization by recording anecdotes of people who were not well known to the world based on Yoo Jong-won’s <Three Precepts>. The anecdotes contained in Nam Gong-soo’s Yadamgimun are in the form of so-called biographies, but they do not have the weight to be included in the stylistic style of biography (傳). The problem is that the monotypical narrative form of the Japrok records a wide variety of character narratives, which are characterized by concentrating attention on the socially disadvantaged, such as the commoners and women, rather than on the wealthy. Of course, the character-centered monomorphic narrative recorded in Japrok recalls its connection to Yadam, which is an important pillar of late Joseon narrative literature. However, it is thought that Yadam and Japrok are differentiated by the regional tendencies of Geongi and Yeongnam, and the political tendencies of Noron-Soron and Namin, which emphasize the aspects of ‘narrative’ and ‘recording’. Based on these tendencies, it is also requested to investigate the disposition of ‘Yadam’ and ‘Japrok’, which I will discuss in a long breath later.
