초록
Tenebrio molitor belongs to the order Coleoptera and family Tenebrionidae. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of the Tenebrio molitor larval hot water extract (TMH) on flagellin-stimulated Caco-2 human colon carcinoma cells. Flagellin induced the production of interleukin-8 in intestinal epithelial cells; however, TMH significantly suppressed this effect. Additionally, TMH effectively reduced the expression of inflammation-related genes, including interleukin-8, C-C motif chemokine ligand (CCL)-2, CCL5, CCL20, and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10, which was increased by flagellin. TMH exerted its anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the phosphorylation of key signaling molecules in the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway, including p38, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and extracellular signal regulated kinase, in flagellin-treated Caco-2 cells. Overall, this study demonstrates the anti inflammatory effects of TMH on flagellin-stimulated Caco-2 cells, suggesting that TMH is a promising candidate for novel therapeutic strategies to treat inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal inflammation.
