본 연구는 미국 트랜스젠더퀴어 정치와 페미니즘 사이에서 발생한 논쟁의 역사를 다시 분석하고 이를 통해 트랜스젠더퀴어 페미니즘의 역사를 재구축한다. 트랜스젠더퀴어 정치와 페미니즘 사이의 관계는 불화와 추방으로 논의되지만, 그 핵심은 내부의 범주 구성을 둘러싼 논쟁이었다. 이 논쟁을 해석하기 위해 우선 1960~70년대 발행된 선언문, 학술 논문 등을 통해 여성 범주를 정치적 범주, 단일하지 않은 권력 구조에 위치한 범주로 재편한 작업을 확인했다. 이후 1900년대 초 마그누스 히르쉬펠트의 사례집에 나온 개인사를 분석하여 트랜스젠더퀴어 정치와 페미니즘 사이의 관계를 제1 물결 페미니즘으로 확장했다. 또한 트랜스젠더퀴어를 배제하고 혐오했던 1970년대 페미니즘의 역사에서 추방의 의미를 재독해하였다. 이를 통해 트랜스젠더퀴어 정치와 페미니즘의 관계를 재편하고 트랜스젠더퀴어 페미니즘의 역사를 확장하는 작업을 통해 둘사이의 관계를 재인식하는 논의를 진행하였다.
Abstract
This study reanalyzes the history of the controversy that arose between transgenderqueer politics and feminism in the United States, thereby reconstructing the history of ‘transgenderqueer’ politics. While the relationship between transgenderqueer politics and feminism is often framed as discord and exclusion, its core was a dispute over the internal construction of categories. To interpret this dispute, we first examined declarations and academic papers published in the 1960s and 70s, identifying efforts to reconfigure the category of women as a political category situated within multiple, intersecting structures of power. Subsequently, by analyzing personal histories from Magnus Hirschfeld’s early 20th-century case studies, the relationship between transgenderqueer politics and feminism was extended to first-wave feminism. Furthermore, I reinterpreted the meaning of expulsion within the history of 1970s feminism, which excluded and hated transgenderqueers. Through this analyses, I restructured the relationship between transgenderqueer politics and feminism, expanded the history of transgenderqueer feminism, and conducted a discussion to re-recognize the relationship between the two politics.
