대학생의 내·외적 요인이 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감 형성에 미치는 영향

초록

본 연구는 대학생 152명을 대상으로 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감 형성에 미치는 내적·외적 요인은 학기 초와 학기 말, 그리고 장애유형에 따라 차이가 있음을 밝혔다. 내적 요인인 자존감은 학기 초와 달리 학기 말에, 그리고 특히 정신지체 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감 형성에 영향을 미쳤다. 외적 요인은 학기 초에는 장애 친구와 장애 영화 시청이, 학기말에는 장애영화 시청과 장애관련 과목이 영향력 있는 변인이었다. 장애영화 시청 횟수의 증가는 하위 차원인 신체적 접근감에 대한 영향력 감소와 함께 개인간 상호작용을 허용하는 대인간 접근감 형성에 대한 영향력 증가를 가져왔다. 그러나 태도 수정기인 학기말에 영화 시청 횟수의 증가는 대학생에게 친숙한 지체장애인의 경우에는 대인간 접근감 형성에만, 자폐 장애인에 대해서는 신체적 접근감뿐만 아니라 대인간 접근감에 대한 영향력 감소를 가져왔다. 이러한 결과는 대학생과 접촉이 많지 않고 의사소통이 어렵고 이해하기 어려운 정신적 장애인에 대한 좀 더 적절한 중재 방법의 필요성을 제기하고 있다. 또한 학기 말의 과목 변인의 대두는 단순한 시청 횟수 증가보다 토론의 기회가 태도 수정에 효과적임을 제시해주고 있다.

Abstract

This study was determined the internal and external variables that affect undergraduate students’ social proximity to disabled people by surveying 152 students who were enrolled in two liberal arts courses. The results revealed that the variables varied according to the point in time during the semester and type of disability. Specifically, the findings showed the following:1. At the end of the semester, self-esteem proved to be an internal variable that influenced the formation of the students’ social proximity, especially to people with mental retardation. 2. The external variables for the beginning of the semester included disabled friends and movies related to disabilities, while those for the end of the semester were movies and courses related to disabilities. 3. In general, an increase in the frequency with which movies related disability were appeared led to a decrease in influence on physical proximity and an increase in influence on interpersonal proximity. However, an increase in the frequency with which such movies were viewed at the end of the semester decreased the influence on interpersonal proximity to people with mental retardation, and that on physical and interpersonal proximity to people with autism. The results suggest the necessity of appropriate intervention for social proximity to people with mental disabilities, such as mental retardation and autism, that is unfamiliar and difficult to accept. Furthermore, the emergence of relevant courses as a variable at the end of the semester indicates that discussions are an effective means of intervention, along with viewing of disability-related movies.
