장애인을 이웃으로 수용할 수 있는 긍정적인 태도는 어떻게 형성되는 것일까? 본 연구에서는 대학생을 대상으로 장애인에 대한 태도조사를 실시함으로써 청소년의 장애인에 대한 태도에 영향을 미치는 관련 요인들을 알아보았다. 연구 결과 성별, 나이 등 인구학적 요인이나 장애관련 선행경험 뿐 아니라 사회적 능력, 부모의 장애인에 대한 태도, 인식된 가족환경 및 학교환경이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 장애인에 대한 태도가 장애에 국한된 선행경험이나 장애관련 교육에 의해서만 영향을 받는 것이 아니라 청소년기의 일반적인 심리사회적 발달이라는 더 넓은 맥락 속에서 형성되는 것이고, 가족․학교 등 환경의 영향을 받으면서 형성되는 것임을 의미한다. 따라서 장애인에 대한 태도를 긍정적으로 변화시키기 위한 사회복지 실천 프로그램들은 좀더 관심의 폭을 넓힐 필요가 있을 것이다. 즉 장애인과 직접적으로 관련된 정보나 지식을 전달하거나 자원봉사 등을 통해 장애인 접촉을 증가시키는 단기적인 프로그램에 그치지 않고, 비장애 학생들의 일반적인 사회적 능력을 신장시키는 장기적인 과정에서 장애인을 긍정적으로 인식하고 수용할 수 있도록 하는 프로그램이 개발되어야 한다. 또한 아동․청소년만을 대상으로 국한하지 않고 그 부모의 장애인에 대한 태도를 긍정적으로 변화시키는 것, 교사를 비롯한 학교환경이 장애인, 더 나아가 사회적 약자에 대해서 배려하고 수용하는 문화를 만들어나가도록 촉진하는 것 등도 사회복지 실천의 프로그램으로 포괄되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
How can we form the positive attitude to accommodate the disabled as neighbor? In this study, the writer inquired by performing survey of attitude on the disabled among the college students, relevant factors influencing attitude of the youth on the disabled. As the result of the study, not only the demographical factor such as sex, age, etc. or a priori experience related to disability, but also social competency, attitude of parents on the disabled, recognized family environment, and school environment were discovered to influence. This means that the attitude on the disabled is influenced not only by a priori experience limited to the disability or by the education related to the disability, but also in the wider context of general psycho-social development and by the environment of family, school, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to widen the width of interest a little bit more in the program of social work to positively change the attitude on the disabled. That is, not stopping at the short term program conveying information or knowledge directly related to the disabled, a program which is to understand and to accept the disabled in the long term program extending general social competency of non-disabled students should be developed. Also, not limiting only to children and the youth, changing positively the attitude of their parents on the disabled, and promoting the culture of caring and accommodating the disabled, and further the socially weak, shall be embraced in the program of social work.
