Abstract

This study analyzed experimental studies that conducted behavioral intervention for disabled infants and toddlers from 2014 to 2023 to identify the general status and research content of the papers. First, the total number of papers in the last 10 years was 45, and the number of papers published by year was the highest in 2017 and 2021, and most of the papers were published in journals related to special education. Second, the most common research subjects were infants and toddlers with developmental delays, the number of subjects was 1, the age of the subjects was infants, and the group composition was a study targeting only infants with disabilities. Third, the experimental location was most often a daycare center, and the experimental design was 40% of group research papers and 60% of single-subject studies. The group studies were mostly single-group pre-post designs, the single-subject studies were mostly multiple baseline designs between subjects, and the experimental intervention sessions were 16∼20 sessions. Fourth, the independent variable was positive behavior support intervention, the dependent variable was disruptive behavior, the intervention effect verification studies, maintenance measurement papers, and papers that did not measure generalization were the most common. Fifth, many papers presented inter-observer reliability, intervention fidelity, and social validity, and most of them did not receive Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and stated parental consent. Sixth, when examining the evidence-based practice (EBP) according to the National Autism Center (2015) standard, most of the studies used interventions that have been proven effective. Through this, we sought the direction of systematic follow-up research and its implications for domestic experimental studies that applied problem behavior intervention to young children with disabilities.
