버나드 슈츠의 스포츠 이론은 ‘형식주의’는 물론 관습주의, 넓은 내재주의 등에 단초를 제공하면서 현대 스포츠철학이 성립하고 발전하는데 토대가 되었다. 슈츠의 스포츠에 관한 철학적 논구는 이미 오랫동안 영미권을 물론 일본, 중국에서 완역본이 발간될 정도로 국제 스포츠 철학계에서 폭넓은 논의를 이끌어 왔다. 그러나 우리의 경우 슈츠의 논저, 논구에 관한 연구 논의는 거의 부재하다 할 정도다. 지금이라도 스포츠 철학의 중심을 이루는 존재론, 윤리론 연구의 형성과 전개에 있어서 시간적으로, 주제적으로 선도의 위치에 있다고 할 슈츠의 논구를 차분하게 분석, 음미할 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 슈츠의 그의 대표 저작인 『베짱이: 게임, 삶 그리고 이상사회』와 「묘한 삼자관계: 게임, 놀이, 스포츠」의 발판이 된 「스포츠의 구성요소」를 분석 해제하는 시도이다.
Abstract
Bernard Suits' sport theory is the basis for the establishment and development of modern sport philosophy, specifically from formalism to conventionalism and broad internalism. Suits' philosophical arguments on sport have already led to a wide range of discussions in the international community of sport philosophy. However, in South Korea, there are almost no research discussions on Suits' thesis and argument. Even nowadays, there exists a necessary to analyze and appreciate Suits' philosophical arguments on sport, which is considered to be in a topically leading position to further the development of ontological and ethical research on sport. This study is an attempt to introduce and analyze Suits’ article, “The elements of sport.”
