이 논문의 목적은 동서독 스포츠 교류와 독일 통일의 관련성을 이론적으로 검토하는 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 니클라스 루만의 소통 개념에 근거한 의미론분석을 연구 방법으로 활용하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독일 통일의 동력은 통일을 위해 노력한 동독 주민들에게서 나왔다. 둘째, 동독 주민들이 통일을 위해 노력하게 만든 것은 그들의 의식에 각인된 희망적 통일의미론이며, 희망적 통일의미론은 40년 이상 지속된 동서독교류를 통해 응축되고, 의식에 각인된 것이다. 셋째, 스포츠 교류는 독일 통일에 방해가 되기도 했고, 도움이 되기도 했다. 그것이 독일 통일에 방해가 된 이유는 정치적 의미처리에 치중함으로써 동독 정권의 유지에 유리한 의미론을 응축시켰기 때문이며, 도움이 된 이유는 경쟁, 재미, 친교, 건강 같은 의미론을 응축시킴으로써 주민교류를 촉진하였기 때문이다. 넷째, 스포츠 교류가 통일에 기여하기 위해서는 남북한주민교류를 촉진해야 하며, 주민교류를 촉진하기 위해서는 스포츠 교류가 스포츠 교류로서 지속되어야만 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to theoretically examine the relationship between East and West German sports exchanges and German unification. The research method of this study is a semantics analysis based on the concept of communication by Niklas Luhmann. The results of the review research are as follow: First, the main driver of German unification came from East Germans. Second, it was 'the hopeful unification semantics' imprinted in the consciousness of East Germans, which inspired them, and this semantics was condensed through East-West German exchanges, lasting more than 40 years. Third, sports exchanges not only hindered German unification, but also contributed to it. The reason for the disruption was that sports exchanges concentrated on political semantics and condensed the semantics for the maintenance of the East German government. This process was helpful because sports exchanges facilitated community exchanges by condensing semantics, such as competition, fun, friendship and health. Fourth, the two Korea must promote general exchanges, so that sports exchanges can contribute to reunification. Sports exchanges in turn will lead to more general exchanges between the South and the North.
