Abstract
In the Kargil war between India and Pakistan, Pakistan threatened to use nuclear weapons several times, but India was able to curb Pakistan's use of nuclear weapons by achieving an expansionary advantage at the vertical, horizontal, and political levels. In addition, in this process, India carried out cognitive warfare and achieved an expansionary advantage at the horizontal and political level, which was relatively inferior. As Pakistan did during the Kargil War, North Korea can misjudge the security situation on the Korean Peninsula due to overconfidence in nuclear weapons, and the possibility of using nuclear weapons in case of emergency is increasing. This study analyzed the Kargill War from the perspective of "expansion dominance" and "cognitive warfare" and derived implications that can be applied to the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
