한국어 보조 용언의 상적양태적 의미 기능과 통사적 특징

이 글의 목적은 보조 용언 ‘놓다, 두다, 버리다’ 등의 의미 기능과 이와 관련된 통사적 특성을 살피는 데 있다. 이에 ‘놓다, 두다, 버리다’ 등이 모두 ‘행위의 완료’라는 상적인 의미와 관련돼 있음을 보이고 이러한 의미 기능에 수반되어 나타나는 통사적 특징을 살펴보았다. 또 이들이 양태적 의미에 따라 일정한 통사적 특징을 나타내는 것을 확인하였다. ‘놓다, 두다, 버리다’ 등은 양태적 의미는 먼저 주어의 의도, 의지를 나타내는 주어 중심 양태와 명제에 대한 화자의 태도를 보이는 화자 중심 양태로 구분되고 이러한 주체에 따른 양태 의미의 구분도 본용언 결합 제약을 비롯한 통사적 특징을 수반한다. 마지막으로 명제 즉, 대상에 대한 양태적 의미는 각각의 보조 용언들의 개별적 특성을 보여주며, 이러한 의미 차이가 개별 보조 용언별로 상이한 본용언 결합 제약이라는 통사적 특징과 관련됨을 알 수 있었다. 그간 개별 보조 용언별로 특징적인 의미와 통사적 현상을 뽑아 간추리다 보니 상이하지만 유사한 의미 기능과 통사적 특징을 보이는 보조 용언 간의 상관성을 관찰하는 데에 어려움이 있었다. 이에 이 글에서는 유사한 통사의미적 특징을 보이는 보조 용언 간의 공통점과 차이점을 알아보기 위해 상적양태적 측면에서 의미 기능을 살펴보고 통사적 제약 현상도 이러한 의미 기능과 관련 있음을 살폈다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to review the meaning and related syntactic properties of several auxiliary verbs, ‘nohda’, ‘duda’, ‘beolida’ and etc. This study revealed that all the verbs ‘nohda’, ‘duda’, ‘beolida’ and etc. related to the aspectual meaning of ‘completion of an action’ and reviewed the accompanied syntactic properties. And it was also found that certain syntactic properties followed certain modal meaning. The modal meaning of these verbs, ‘nohda’, ‘duda’, ‘beolida’ and etc. were classified into speaker-oriented modality and agent-oriented modality. The speaker-oriented modality expresses the speaker's intention and will while the agent-oriented modality presents the agent's attitude toward the object. This classification of modal meaning by the subject accompanies some syntactic properties like limitations on main verb combination. Finally, I found that the modal meaning toward the object showed the individual properties of each auxiliary verbs and such difference in modal meaning related to the syntactic property of limitation on main verb combination, which is specific to each auxiliary verbs. There have been some difficulty in observing the relationship between different auxiliary verbs with similar meanings and similar syntactic properties during collecting and analysing the typical meanings and syntactic appearances in each auxiliary verbs. So this study explored the similarities and difficulties in each auxiliary verbs with similar aspectual and modal meanings through reviewing the meanings in aspectual and modal respect and also observed that the syntactic limitations had something to do with these meanings.
