초록

성경에 대한 이해와 그에 따른 바른 성경 해석 여부는 각 교회와 신학 체계의 정체성을 결정하는 기독교 역사에서 가장 중요한주제였다. 16세기 종교개혁은 “오직 성경으로”의 원칙에 입각해중세 로마 가톨릭의 왜곡된 성경관을 바로잡고 이로부터 성경의권위를 회복하며 성경이 명확히 계시하는 진리를 재확인하려 했다. 본 논문의 목적은 16세기 종교개혁 시대의 개혁신학이 견지했던 성경관의 요점을 밝히고 현재적 의의를 재조명하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 루터와 츠빙글리의 성경관을 개략적으로 살핀후, 칼빈의 성경관을 그의 주요 저술들을 중심으로 상세히 검토분석한다. 그가 어떤 맥락과 목적에 따라 성경을 특별계시라고규정했는지, 성경의 권위를 확증하는 근거와 그 의미를 무엇이라고 설명했는지, 그리고 성경을 기록하고 깨닫게 하는 성령의 내적 감화를 어떻게 이해하고 적용했는지 차례대로 분석할 것이다. 칼빈은 자신의 종교개혁적 성경 이해를 통해 16세기 로마 가톨릭과 급진개혁세력의 오류를 비판했으며, 이와 더불어 이성적 해석과 판단을 높이는 인문주의적 성경 해석 방식도 경계했다. 오늘날에도 성경의 권위와 충족함을 거부하고 성경에 기록된 명확한진리를 교회적 권위나 개인적 경험, 혹은 합리적 판단에 따라 변형시키려는 다양한 도전은 계속 나타나고 있다. 이런 상황 속에서 칼빈의 신학을 역사적 규범으로 여기는 역사적 개혁신학은 그의 성경관으로부터 성경의 권위와 명확한 진리를 지키는 보편적인 원칙과 효과적인 방법들을 배울 수 있다.

Abstract

Understanding of the Bible and its interpretation have been one of the most important factors of the church which determine the identity of churches and theological traditions. The sixteenth- century reformation tried to recover the authority of the bible and rediscover the biblical truth against the medieval Roman Catholic distortions and errors. This study aims to illustrate the focal points of the sixteenth-century reformers’ understanding of Scripture and manifest its practical significance. After a brief review of Martin Luther’s and Ulrich Zwingli’s understandings of the Bible, John Calvin’s ideas is examined. This examination deals with three topics: the context and purpose of Calvin’s definition of the Bible as the special revelation, his explanation of the ground and meaning of the authority of Scripture, and his idea of the Holy Spirit’s works of writing Scripture and helping believers to recognize the divine truth in it. Calvin, according to his reformation idea of the Bible, refuted both the Roman Catholic and the radical view of the Bible. He also kept a distance from the humanist hermeneutics which evaluated human reason and judgement in interpreting biblical passages. Various challenges, which arise from the ecclesiastical power, personal experiences, or rational judgements, still threat the authority and the teachings of the Bible today. In such a situation, Korean reformed churches can find a consistent principle and effective methods from Calvin’s ideas in defending the authority and the truth of Scripture.
