Art museums have transformed from object-centered to visitor- centered institution in order to engage more general public. As a response to this change, art museums provides an education program as a community service to facilitate meaningful learning experiences for various audiences. Thus, art museums began to be considered as an art classroom, not just preservatory of art resources. Education department of the museum came to work closely with art teachers in the schools in order to originate, innovate, and develop museum education for students’ needs as well as museum collections. In fact, museum has a long and highly successful history of collaboration with elementary and secondary schools. Collaboration can enhance the ability of each participant and provides a unified, focused mechanism for achieving individual goals of museum and school. This paper will review the art museum/school relationship and define a teacher as an essential factor for the successful collaboration. Then, I will examine education programs of Florida State University Museum of Fine Art with some implications.
