Abstract
More and more firms have adapted co-marketing alliances to increase the awareness or sales of their products. However, little research has been done on the effects of co-marketing in the marketing literature. We study whether co-marketing increases the awarenss of allied products and what types of co-marketing are more effective. The results of this study are as follows: (1) Co-marketing activities increases the TOM awareness of allied product’s awareness; (2) Product relevance strengthens the effect of co-marketing on awareness. (3) The alliance between hedonic and utilitarian products is more effective than the alliances between the same types of products; (4) Co-marketing for a long-term period (more than 6 months) is more desirable than co-marketing for a short-term period (less than 6 months).
