Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the perception of special education teachers in elementary school on the goals of special physical education. To do so, this study includes comparison and analysis of the differences in the goal perception according to individual variables. The subjects of this study were 197 special education teachers in elementary school. The questionnaire was developed by Sherrill(1990) as Goals of Adapted Physical Education Scale (GAPES) and interpreted, revised by In-Kyung Lee(1997) as Korean Goals of Adapted Physical Education Scale (KGAPES). Statistical methods employed in this study were mean rank, Mann-Whitney Test, and Kruskal-Wallis Test. As result, special education teachers in elementary school consider fun/tension release as the most important goals of physical education. Other important goals include social competency, positive self-concept, leisure time skills, play & game skills, cure & rehabilitation, perceptual-motor function & sensory integration, physical & motor fitness, creative expression, and motor skills & patterns in order of priority.
