Abstract
In the context of the today’s information age, this study analyzes the impact of the online environment and its characteristics on the audience cost mechanism. This study suggests that public opinion formed on the internet can be differentiated from the existing dynamics of audience cost and that public opinion online can reinforce audience cost or have an opposite effect because online public opinion is likely to incline to a certain opinion easily. By utilizing frameworks based on common knowledge, coordination problem and expected utility, this study concludes that there is sufficient potential for such effects.
