Abstract
This study examined the mediating effects of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework in the relationship between early childhood teachers’ technology acceptance intention, technostress, and technology usage behavior. The subjects of this study were 324 early childhood teachers working in kindergartens and daycare centers nationwide. Structural equation modeling (SEM) and bootstrapping in SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 were used to analyze the data, and led to the following results: First, technology acceptance intention and TPACK showed positive correlations with technology usage behavior, whereas technostress was negatively correlated with all other variables. Second, TPACK fully mediated the relationship between technology acceptance intention and technology usage behavior, demonstrating that intention influences behavior solely through TPACK rather than directly, and a partial mediating effect was found for technostress, which negatively affected technology usage behavior both directly and indirectly. This study revealed the critical role of TPACK in early childhood teachers’ technology usage behavior and demonstrated the necessity of managing technostress. The findings of this study can be used as foundational data for developing teacher education programs to enhance early childhood teachers’ technology competence.
